Deforestation in the Chiribiquete National Natural Park represents a hybrid threat combining environmental, social, and criminal factors, impacting Colombia's national security. This qualitative and exploratory study examines the relationship between forest loss, illicit coca cultivation, and multidimensional poverty indicators through remote sensing techniques and geo-referential analysis. Results reveal that deforestation is directly linked to the expansion of coca crops and precarious socioeconomic conditions.
Additionally, HCHO emissions and wildfires exacerbate environmental degradation. This phenomenon underscores the necessity of integrating contemporary geopolitical approaches that prioritize the environmental dimension as a strategic axis in policymaking. The study concludes that deforestation in this area demands a multidimensional intervention to address its structural causes and implications.
